2023 ISSA U19 BOYS & GIRLS HOCKEY COMPETITION

Mona, Kingston, Jamaica – The Jamaica Hockey Federation (JHF) is thrilled to announce the start of the ISSA School Boys and Girls Field Hockey Competition. The competition’s first staging since the COVID-19 pandemic will begin on March 7th with four games and the Opening Ceremony at 3:00 p.m.

The competition will feature teams from high schools across Jamaica, with over 200 players expected to participate. The JHF is excited to support the development of hockey at the school level and hopes to see a growing interest in the sport across the island.

“The resumption of the ISSA School Boys and Girls Field Hockey Competition is an important milestone for the JHF as we continue to work towards the growth and development of the sport in Jamaica,” said Rudolfo Johnston, Director, Growth & Development of the JHF. “We are thrilled to see so many schools participating in this year’s competition, and we are confident that this will be a great opportunity for young players to showcase their talent and passion for the sport.”

The JHF has been working hard to promote the sport of hockey in Jamaica, and the ISSA School Boys and Girls Field Hockey Competition is just one example of the federation’s commitment to expanding the reach of the sport. The JHF hopes that this competition will inspire more young players to take up hockey and that it will help to build a strong foundation for the future of the sport in Jamaica.

JHF Boss looks to rebuild hockey

Following government approval for national team training, president of the Jamaica Hockey Federation (JHF), Fabian Stewart, is anticipating that approval for competition is not far behind.

 

The approval for senior men’s and women’s teams to begin preparation for the Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC) qualifiers in April is the first activity for the sport locally in 18 months due to the COVID-19 restrictions. read more

President of the Jamaica Hockey Federation(JHF) elected to the Board of The Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF)

Fabian Stewart was elected to the Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF) Board of Directors for a two year term at the recently concluded biennial PAHF Congress held in Santiago, Chile, January 27 – 29th 2022.  Fabian Stewart is the first JHF President to be elected to the PAHF Board of Directors in over a decade. While growth in the sport has been affected by the Pandemic during the last two years, the JHF has accomplished the following under President Stewart’s leadership: 

  • PAHF regional programs for Coaching, Training and Development 2016 – 2022;
  • Received the PAHF’s President’s Award for Youth Development 2019; and
  • The PAHF Award for successfully hosting the Pan Am CAC Qualifiers in 2017  

Fabian Stewart also serves on the Board of Directors for the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA)

JHF Elects New Board of Directors

The Jamaica Hockey Federation elects a new Board of Directors at its Annual General Meeting.

Mona AstroTurf, Kingston, December 12, 2021: The Jamaica Hockey Federation (JHF) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at the Mona Astro Turf. The council, made up of clubs, individual, and life members, gathered to fill the positions of men’s vice-president, women’s vice-president, and honorary secretary.

Ricardo Panton, who had been Vice-President since January 2021, has been reinstated. Ricardo returns to the board with a wealth of sports management experience, having worked for some of Jamaica’s top sports companies and teams, including Ballaz International and the Jamaica National Men’s Hockey Team, where he served as Team Manager.

The new Women’s Vice-President is Ms. Dionne Smallhorne, who served as Team Manager for the Women’s Team at the 2018 Central America and Caribbean (CAC) Games. Smallhorne, a country bakery manager at PriceSmart, brings a wealth of experience in operations, customer relations, and auditing to the board.

Krystal Buchanan, an experienced banker at VM Group, joins the board as Honorary Secretary. Krystal, a marketer by training, has a wealth of customer service and supervisory experience. Fabian Stewart, President; Dr. Carlton Campbell, Director; Collington Rowe, Honorary Treasurer; Lt. Colonel Roderick Rowe, Director; and Victor Tomlinson, Immediate Past President, complete the Board.
